182 | Halloween and Christian Participation

Oct 30, 2025

As we approach Halloween, we reflect together on its origins, recognizing that its roots stem from ancient Celtic and early Catholic traditions, blending pagan and Christian elements. We consider how the holiday has evolved culturally, becoming popular for fun activities like dressing up and trick-or-treating, yet also carrying darker associations with death and the supernatural. We wrestle with whether and how we, as believers, should engage with Halloween—balancing conscience, witness, and cultural sensitivity. We agree that while some aspects may be redeemed or innocuous, others—especially those involving fear, violence, or demonic themes—require careful discernment and often should be avoided. Ultimately, we encourage each other to act with love, respect one another’s convictions, and seek ways to honor God in how we live and celebrate. Together, we strive to grow in faith and wisdom, applying God’s Word thoughtfully in every part of life.
