191 | Marriage Cultural Confusion Part 1

Feb 26, 2026

In this episode of The PACT Podcast, we explore how culture’s acceptance of cohabitation and premarital sex contrasts sharply with God’s design for marriage as a sacred covenant. We recognize that even within the church, there’s often a troubling normalization of these practices, which Scripture clearly calls sin. We emphasize that sexual intimacy is meant to be the sign of a marriage covenant, not something taken prematurely, and that living together before marriage undermines that covenant and cheapens God’s gift of sex. While we understand the cultural pressures and fears that lead people to rationalize cohabitation, we remind ourselves that true flourishing happens within the covenant of marriage, which requires faith, commitment, and holiness. We encourage repentance and grace for those who’ve fallen into these patterns and stress the importance of accountability within the Christian community. We also acknowledge the pastoral challenges involved when addressing such issues, underscoring that pastors’ decisions to withhold officiating weddings in these situations come from a place of love, faithfulness, and obedience to Scripture, not condemnation. Ultimately, we want to encourage each other to honor God’s design for marriage, embrace grace, and pursue holiness together as a community.
